What is the Data Source?

The data source is a mix of EPA and other federally FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) obtained data.

Why did I do this Project?

I didn’t see a centralized listing of all the tribes and their designations for Treatment As a State. I wanted the information to help planning training and to help create a data set for measuring progress for tribes across the different EPA regions. TAS, especially regulatory TAS, is fairly rare for a lot of tribes. Many are still building their environmental protection capacity.

But basically TAS is a big step in taking over tribal sovereignty for specific aspects of Environmental Protection.
